The discovery of a murder scene leads Hardy and Miller to arrest a startling suspect.

Beth's daughter, Elizabeth, is born in a home birth. Hardy finds Claire at her home with Lee, safe. Hardy confronts Claire about the bluebells, and Lee later denies sending them to her. Bishop meets with her son, Jonah, who is in prison, to discuss his appeal of his sentence. Knight cares for her senile mother, Margery, at a private nursing home, and later has an automobile accident at night due to her failing eyesight. Hardy's testimony continues, and doubt is cast on Joe's use of mobiles and a laptop to commit Danny's murder. Rev. Coates visits the Latimers, where Mark expresses an anti-religious view. Ellie and Claire go to a bar, where Ellie surreptitiously checks Claire's mobile phone for calls from Lee. Drunk, Ellie then has sex with a man she meets in the bar. Lee visits Hardy and gives him evidence on other suspects in the Sandbrook case. Claire tells Ellie she was drugged the night of the Sandbrook murders, and Hardy admits to Ellie that Claire is not telling the truth about Sandbrook. Judge Sharma rules Ellie must testify, and during her testimony Bishop accuses Ellie of having an affair with Hardy and framing Joe for Danny's murder.

Derek is desperate to save the life of a baby bird that has fallen from a tree. Some of the residents attend a jumble sale and later it's date night for Tom and Hannah, but she's forgotten.

Hannah and Tom have happy news, and Derek's dad Anthony goes on a date with Tom's nan. But matters of the heart are taking a downward turn for Kev who calls on his brother Cliff for help.

Dirk's old clients are being randomly murdered with Dirk as the only link. Rather than talk to the police, Dirk elects to leave the country but is waylaid by a series of seemingly unconnected events.[2]

The valley is rocked by the sudden, unprovoked murder of young police officer Kirsten McAskill. Meanwhile Ashley and Lewis panic that Tommy Lee Royce's actions will lead to their being exposed. Catherine begins having flashbacks of her dead daughter as she struggles to come to terms with Kirsten's death, and she reveals to Clare that she blames herself. Nevison's wife Helen urges him to involve the police in finding Ann, but he refuses, fearful that disobeying the kidnappers' instructions not to involve the police would further endanger Ann.
