Alan and Denny defend a drug company that is being sued by a woman who states they provided false reasoning when they took her off of an experimental pill that was a possible cure for her sickness and they discover a shocking secret that could make or break their case; Lori discovers that Tara's new information for their case would win it for them, but the way she retrieved it could cost them their case and their careers; Lori learns a secret about Brad.

Ignoring pleas from Nicki to become Juniper Creek's next prophet, Bill contemplates running for the vacant Utah State Senate seat against ardent polygamy foe Roy Colburn. Joey and Wanda return to Juniper Creek, but a suspicious J.J. is lurking. Sarah and Scott decide to forgo a wedding in Bill's church in favor of a civil ceremony, shocking Barb, who nevertheless takes steps with Bill to be re-admitted to the church that excommunicated them. J.J., making his mark in a UEB satellite compound in Kansas, has a contentious dinner at the Henricksons' with his cancer-ridden wife Malinda. Margene confronts Nicki about her feelings for Ray Henry, who's moving away after losing his case. A reform-minded Dale tries to keep Alby at bay, to little avail.

Locke arrives at Boone's funeral and is attacked by Jack. Locke asks for Shannon's forgiveness, to no avail; instead, Shannon steals the key to the gun case from a sleeping Jack, and confronts Locke in the jungle. Sayid tackles Shannon just as she fires the gun and the bullet grazes Locke's head. Sayid later tells Locke to take him to the hatch. In flashbacks, Sayid becomes an informant for the Australian Secret Intelligence Service and the CIA, which has asked him to infiltrate a terrorist cell of which his old friend Essam is a member. Sayid agrees to do it in return for Nadia's whereabouts and he betrays Essam, who kills himself.
