"To The Moon" When I was a little girl all I wanted to do was go to the moon. I had the perfect outfit. The star chart on my ceiling. I've read all the books and seen all the movies. There's so much to know about space, and the stars, and the planets. Like... Nebulae are the nurseries of the universe. The computer that put us on the moon was less powerful than a cell phone. When you look at the stars you're looking into the past. I like knowing what's out there... The ISS is over my house. The Lyrid meteor shower. Where to find Orion. But tonight... I'm thinking about tomorrow's lesson plan. (It's space week!) I can't wait for the kids to see our first steps. The moons of Jupiter. The rings of Saturn. What happens when you cry in space. Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive-and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
