Pete and Trudy host a dinner party for their neighbors in Cos Cob. Pete invites his neighbor's wife, Brenda, to meet him in Manhattan with the promise of tickets to the new musical Hair. Brenda arrives at Peter's city apartment, and he seduces her. Don overhears his neighbors, Dr. Arnold and Sylvia Rosen, arguing about money. When Arnold leaves, Don returns to Sylvia and they continue their affair. On his way out, Don gives an appreciative Sylvia the cash in his wallet. Later, Sylvia witnesses Megan's abrupt firing of the Draper's housekeeper. Megan confides in Sylvia that she has miscarried, though Don was unaware that she was pregnant. Megan expresses guilt over her relief that she has been spared a difficult decision regarding the pregnancy. Sylvia shares that she, too, had a miscarriage, but her strong Catholic faith means she would never consider abortion a viable option. Later, the Rosens and Drapers are supposed to have dinner, but Megan says she feels unwell and sends Don to the restaurant alone. Arnold is suddenly called away from the restaurant to perform surgery, but urges Don and Sylvia to stay. Sylvia is uncomfortable, but Don persuades her to stay, and they return to Sylvia's afterward. Sylvia says she and Don must not fall in love. Don later returns home to Megan, who confides in him about her miscarriage. Brenda shows up at Pete and Trudy's backdoor, after being beaten bloody by her husband, to whom she has revealed her dalliance. Trudy cares for Brenda, while Pete tries to keep her quiet. Trudy drives Brenda to a hotel. The next morning Trudy kicks Pete out. SCDP's client, the Heinz Baked Beans representative, brings the Heinz Ketchup representative in for a meeting, but later makes clear that SCDP is to have no further contact with Ketchup. Stan lets slip to Peggy, who now works at rival agency CGC, that SCDP has a meeting with Ketchup. Peggy relays the Heinz news to her boss, Ted Chaough, who orders Peggy to ready a CGC pitch. Client Herb Rennet of Jaguar returns to the SCDP office and rubs Don and Joan the wrong way. Don has flashbacks to his adolescence growing up in a brothel, where his stepmother Abigail moved them after Don's father died. Don meets a blonde hooker named Aimee (who warns him to stay away from Mack, the proprietor, and develop his own vices), and witnesses Mack, having his way with the pregnant Abigail.
